Drosophila Mutant Screening of Chromosome 3L

چکیده

Drosophila Melanogaster has some 14,000 genes in its genome. Gene sequencing has revealed many new genes that have yet to be studied for function. To narrow this astronomical task Pelement inserts were inserted into different genes on the left arm of chromosome 3. The importance of the gene for cell development was analyzed by inducing mutant expression in the eye. Of the six Bloomington stocks observed two showed phenotypic mutations while only two of nine Szeged stocks showed mutations. Those that showed a mutation contain a disrupted gene that is important to cell development. The severity of the mutation also aids in locating significant genes.

The Analysis of Mutant Alleles of Different Strength Reveals Multiple Functions of Topoisomerase 2 in Regulation of Drosophila Chromosome Structure

Topoisomerase II is a major component of mitotic chromosomes but its role in the assembly and structural maintenance of chromosomes is rather controversial, as different chromosomal phenotypes have been observed in various organisms and in different studies on the same organism. In contrast to vertebrates that harbor two partially redundant Topo II isoforms, Drosophila and yeasts have a single ...

Screening for x-ray-induced crossover suppressors in Drosophila melanogaster: prevalence and effectiveness of translocations.

HE sequence of meiotic events that results in synapsis is not clear. It is diffiTcult to observe chromosome behavior in early stages of meiosis even in favorable fixed material, and the early oocytes of Drosophila melanogaster are certainly not favorable cytological material. However, the many well-mapped mutant genes and the polytene chromosomes of the salivary glands of this species make it p...

Distributive pairing: mechanism for segregation of compound autosomal chromosomes in oocytes of Drosophila melanogaster.

HE segregational behavior of Drosophila chromosomes in the first meiotic Tdivision of the oocyte is quite different from that expected from the classical picture of the independent assortment of nonhomologous chromosomes and the regular segregation of homologous chromosomes. Under appropriate circumstances, nonhomologous chromosomes may segregate very regularly to opposite poles of the spindle ...

The genetic and cytogenetic localization of the three structural genes coding for the major protein of drosophila larval serum.

The alpha, beta and gamma polypeptides that make up Drosophila Larval Serum Protein-1 seem to be coded for by genes that have evolved by duplication of a common ancestral gene. We have found variants of all three polypeptides, and these are variants of the coding sequences. The alpha-chain variant mapped to 39.5 on the X chromosome and to the polytene interval 11A7-11B9. The beta-chain variant ...

Drosophila sickle Is a Novel grim-reaper Cell Death Activator

The Drosophila genes reaper, head involution defective (hid), and grim all reside at 75C on chromosome three and encode related proteins that have crucial functions in programmed cell death (reviewed in ). In this report, we describe a novel grim-reaper gene, termed sickle, that resides adjacent to reaper. The sickle gene, like reaper and grim, encodes a small protein which contains an RHG moti...
